Training Description
This live virtual training focuses on a paradigm shift in the way we think about and approach the history and current practice of harm reduction. This training will focus on the philosophies of harm reduction and the integration of those philosophies throughout the continuum of substance use treatment. Using a clinical case vignette, attendees will discuss ways of assisting patients through the principles of harm reduction. Participants will have the opportunity to review harm reduction as an evidence-based practice and the practicalities of providing resources and support for patients.

Participants will be provided with a host of resources in Los Angeles County, including information on the Substance Abuse Prevention and Control's Substance Use Disorder (SUD) prevention and treatment provider network, harm reduction and syringe exchange resources. Participants will be actively engaged throughout the presentation through chat, polling, and open discussion.

Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of the training, participants will be able to:
1. Describe the effectiveness of three (3) principles of harm reduction for substance use treatment providers.
2. Discuss four (4) ways harm reduction is an evidenced based practice as part of the substance use treatment continuum.
3. Integrate six (6) harm reduction strategies utilizing a case vignette throughout the continuum of substance use treatment.
