Training Description
This Live virtual training has a special focus on assisting Substance Use Disorder Counselors
and Certified Medi-Cal Peer Support Specialists in connecting the services provided within
the substance use disorder (SUD) continuum of care with the appropriate Healthcare
Common Procedure Coding System (HCPCS) Medi-Cal service codes. The training will begin
by providing context on the scope, application, and operationalization of Medi-Cal service
codes within the Drug Medi-Cal Organized Delivery System (DMC-ODS). We will then
differentiate between different substance use treatment services and their associated Medi-Cal service codes. Participants will have an opportunity to practice connecting different substance use services with their appropriate Medi-Cal service codes.
Participants will be actively engaged throughout the presentation using the chat, polling, and
open discussion.
Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of the training, participants will be able to:
1. Discuss the scope, application, and operationalization of Medi-Cal service codes within
the Drug Medi-Cal Organized Delivery System (DMC-ODS).
2. Differentiate between six (6) substance use treatment services and the Medi-Cal
service codes associated with each service.
3. Practice connecting at least three (3) substance use treatment services to the appropriate
Medi-Cal service codes.
