This is a three-hour fifteen minute (3:15) live virtual, free introductory training and is open to SAPC
Network providers including:
• Registered and Certified Substance Use Disorder (SUD) Counselors
• LMFTs, LCSWs, LPCCs & Licensed Eligible (LE) AMFTs, ACSWs, APCCs
• Psychologists & Registered Psychological Associates
• Certified Medi-Cal Peer Support Specialists & Peer Support Specialists

Training Description
The purpose of this live virtual training is to assist SAPC network providers with recognizing, engaging,
and screening/assessing individuals with co-occurring mental health and substance use conditions.
During this training participants will learn how to recognize the five (5) most common mental health
conditions that co-occur with substance use disorders. A clinical vignette will be used throughout the
training to help providers practice engaging with as well as screening and assessing those with cooccurring mental health and substance use conditions. Participants will also learn how to integrate
three (3) key concepts of effectively working as an interdisciplinary treatment team while including
the patient as a partner in care.
Participants will be engaged in group discussion, chat, and polls participants throughout training.
Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of the training, participants will be able to:
1. Define five (5) of the most prevalent mental health disorders that co-occur with substance
use disorders (SUD).
2. Identify at least two (2) ways those with co-occurring mental health and substance use
conditions can be engaged in treatment.
3. Apply two (2) strategies when screening/assessing those with co-occurring mental health and
substance use conditions.
4. Integrate three (3) key concepts of effectively working as an interdisciplinary treatment team
while including the patient as a partner in care.
