10 Tips For Those Recovery with Addiction

Anyone that has gone through recovery may know, it is not an easy journey, but it is well worth it! We are celebrating National Recovery Month by focusing on the positives recovery brings. Although addiction cannot be cured, it can be managed, and with a team of professionals, you can be that much closer to recovery. Recovery gives individuals a chance at a bright, happy, and full future.

Here are the 10 keys to making a successful recovery:

1. Make your recovery a priority

First and foremost, you should put you and your recovery before anything else.

2. Communicate

It can be difficult talking to your family and friends about your addiction. That is why it is so important to find a support system in which you can voice your struggles, breakthroughs, and feelings. Communicating can help you stay focused and motivated on your recovery

3. Get out and exercise

Getting just 30 minutes of exercise a day will do wonders to you. In addition to helping you boost your physical strength, it will improve your mental health as well. If you’re ever feeling discouraged, try going for a run, you’ll feel rejuvenated and refreshed.

4. Take it one day at a time

Recovery is not achieved in one day, it is a process that must be approached one day at a time. Take each day as a victory and don’t let negative thoughts consume you.

5. Change your environment

The key to a successful recovery is replacing your bad habits with healthy, new ones. It is crucial to surround yourself with positive people, influences, and experiences. Seek out local cultural events and activities that can stimulate your mind in a new and exciting way. Luckily, here in Los Angeles, the list of events and activities are endless throughout the year.

6. Change your friends

If your friends enable your addiction, you need to remove yourself from their circle. True friends want you to succeed in your recovery and will support you. A healthy friend circle is crucial for a successful recovery.

7. Join a support group

Whether it’s AA, a church group or any other social support group, having this support team will be one of your greatest allies, providing you with help and advice.

8. Be productive with your time

Spending your time wisely by giving back or being productive will be great for your self-esteem. Making a positive contribution for others will not only give yourself a sense of accomplishment but will help others too.

9. Improve your diet

Eating right, along with exercising, will make you feel better all around. When you respect your body and treat it right, you’ll take this investment in yourself more seriously.

10. Never give up

You are going to be presented with challenges and obstacles, and you’ll constantly be tempted to revert back to your old habits. Even if you relapse, it is crucial to your health and happiness that you don’t give up on your recovery. Rely on your friends, family, and support team to keep you on track, they too, want to see you win and accomplish a successful recovery.
